McVay is grateful to join his peers on the Freshman450 list.
“It is an honor, there are levels to this game,” McVay said. “A lot of the players in the Freshman 450 class I have played with or against and I know one thing we all work hard to be the best.”
McVay says this wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the tireless dedication of his coaches.
“This says that all my hard work, offseason training is working out,” McVay said. “It also has shown me that I have been blessed with some very good, caring coaches.”
The imposing McVay is certainly a coach’s dream. McVay explains the strengths he brings to the football field.
“My size, being fundamentally sound, having strong technique and my knowledge of the game,” McVay said.
McVay expresses his greatest joys of being an offensive tackle.
“I love protecting the quarterback and the feeling when you shut down their star DE,” McVay said.
McVay is an offensive tackle but he appreciates the play of a couple of standout quarterbacks as well in addition to those at his position.
“My favorite players are Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson because I love their styles,” McVay said. “Tyron Smith because of his size and athletic ability. Anthony Castonzo because of his use of technique and how fundamentally sound he plays.“
McVay shares what he enjoys the most about playing football.
“The one on one matchups and the brotherhood of the team,” McVay said.
As he prepares his game for the next level, McVay is hard at work in the classroom.
“I have a goal to maintain a 3.5 or higher in my honor classes and preparing for the ACT,” McVay said.
McVay breaks down the aspects of his game that he wants to improve.
“I am working on building my strength, getting faster and seeing the game better,” McVay said.
McVay outlines what’s upcoming on his itinerary.
“I plan to continue to train at The Elite Football Academy, and as camps and opportunities come open I will try to attend,” McVay said.
With his work ethic and dedication to his craft, McVay is confident the best is yet to come.
“It is a process. Catching up to the speed of the game, and the level of physicality is where I have made the most progress,” McVay said. “I’m getting better every day.”
