The class of 2022 track star is now committed to taking his talents to the University of Arkansas, where he looks to blaze his own trail.

Carney did a brief Q&A with Youth1.com and shared that he's extremely excited for this opportunity.

Q: How did your high school career end?

A: I ran my last race at Nike Outdoor Nationals inside Hayward Field at the University of Oregon a few weeks ago. Hayward is an unbelievable place. I was fortunate to run the 4x400m relay with Vince Mwangi who has been with me the last two years at IMG Academy. We were not predicted to finish very high, but we exceeded expectations and earned All American status.

Q: Tell me about your commitment to Arkansas. How’d it come together?

A: During the indoor season of my junior year, I ran extremely well in multiple relays at Adidas Indoor Nationals. Coach Napier, IMG’s head coach, put me in the 4x200m relay at the last minute and I was able to show my foot speed as a middle-distance runner. After that, Coach Napier called the staff at Arkansas to let them know about me. I took my official visit the fall semester of my senior year and had a great time. I was able to get to know the coaches better, see the amazing facilities, and hang out with several members of the team.

Q: What other schools did you consider?

A: Texas Christian, Oklahoma State, Miami, and Arizona

Q: How excited are you to be a part of Arkansas track?

A: I’m blessed to receive this opportunity. I am ready to get on campus and start training with the team.

Q: What does it say about your ability that the Arkansas coaches want you to be a part of the team?

A: Arkansas is the pinnacle of track and field and the reigning SEC Champions. I think it speaks volumes to my competitive nature and their confidence in my ability to contribute to their success.

Q: What about Arkansas made you feel like it was the right fit?

A: I’ve always been a big fan of the state of Arkansas. It’s close to home and I felt like the coaching staff was very welcoming. Also, The Walton School of Business will allow me to continue my academics at a high level.
