Multi-sport athlete Major Quin is one of the more athletic football players in Mississippi’s Class of 2025 recruiting class. You see a lot of sports specializations with athletes in this generation. However, Quin is not your normal athlete. Quin, who is listed at 5-9, 160 pounds. participates in football, baseball, soccer and track and field. He finished his freshman year season with 27 catches for 542 yards and six touchdowns while playing wide receiver for his school's junior varsity team. Quin has a busy offseason ahead of him and he already knows what his goals are for his sophomore year of football.
“I would like to earn a starting position as a sophomore and be a three-year starter at Jackson Prep,” said Quin. “I would like Jackson Prep to win three straight MAIS 6-A state championships during my high school career. I want to be remembered as a key contributor on those teams. I also want to earn All-Conference and All-State honors.”
Quin will be taking a unique approach to his training since he plays multiple sports. He started out playing flag football in the 2nd and 3rd grades and began playing tackle football in fourth grade. Quin knows that he must be mindful of his training regimen since he participates in different sports for much of the year.
“I lift weights with my strength coach, Gordan Weir, three days per week, “said Quin. “I also left weights at school two-to-three times per week.” Quin added that Coach Weir creates a unique workout plan for him. “Coach Weir constructs his workouts around the school workouts to ensure I am not duplicating efforts or overworking muscle groups.”
The amount of work that Quin puts into becoming a better overall athlete is impressive. According to Quin, he works on his speed and agility with two different coaches. “I work with Coach Clyde Avant and Coach Shady Hodge,” said Quinn. “Coach Avent focuses on running form and Coach Hodge focuses on developing strength for increasing speed.”
Outside of strength and speed training, Quin is also playing for a travel 7v7 team called the Devoted Dreamers. The team is founded by current NFL linebacker Demario Davis of the New Orleans Saints. It’s another way for Quin to work on improving as a wide receiver. “I work on improving my strength, speed, and skills nearly every day of the week.” Even though he’s constantly on the go and working towards getting better in multiple spots, Quin enjoys the daily grind.
“I think my best attributes are my work ethic and leadership abilities. I challenge myself everyday to improve.”
