On a beautiful day in Murrieta, CA this past weekend, youth athletes from around the west coast came to compete in an all-star game hosted by the Diamond Sports Group's D1 Savage Series. This event served as the first of 4 events in the D1 Savage Series, with others set for Virginia Beach, VA, Canton, OH, and Dallas, TX later in the spring/summer.
Athletes from grades 3rd-8th were in attendance as there was a game for each age group, totaling in 6 games for the day. Each grade group was split into two teams, the White squad and the Red squad.
In the 6th grade game the White team would continue to dominate in what became the trend of the day. Led by RB Queshyne Flippen, the White squad would strike early and often as the Red team struggled to keep up.
Flippen got things going right away for the White team, as he gashed the Red defense early in the 1st quarter for an 80 yard TD run off of a flip pass. This gave White an early 7-0 lead.
RB Charles McDonald would keep the scoring going for the White team, as he grabbed a touchdown catch in the back of the endzone. White took a 14-0 lead.
The Red team failed to gain any traction in the 1st half of this game. White would continue to dominate early on with Flippen and RB Nikoh Rivers adding two more scores to end the first half.
The second half would be more of the same as Flippen would continue to dominate for the White team, as they would go on to put 47 points on the board.
The Red team would show some late game fight as ATH Jordon Davidson would put two touchdowns on the board to give the Red team 13 second half points.
The White squad would take home the victory, winning 47-13. Flippen would be named Overall MVP of the 6th grade game.
