RB Martrell Nasir-Henry leads White team to victory in the D1 Savage Series' 5th Grade Game in Murrieta, CA

On a beautiful day in Murrieta, CA this past weekend, youth athletes from around the west coast came to compete in an all-star game hosted by the Diamond Sports Group's D1 Savage Series. This event served as the first of 4 events in the D1 Savage Series, with others set for Virginia Beach, VA, Canton, OH, and Dallas, TX later in the spring/summer.

Athletes from grades 3rd-8th were in attendance as there was a game for each age group, totaling in 6 games for the day. Each grade group was split into two teams, the White squad and the Red squad.

The 5th grade game was an enjoyable showdown, with the White team putting on a show.

Led by RB Martrell Nasir-Henry, the White team got off to a strong start to the game. Henry gashed the Red team with a 50+ yard run to get the White team on the board, giving them a 7-0 lead.

Henry would keep the pressure on the Red team through the first half with his ability to get big gains out of the backfield. Before the end of the 1st half, Henry would put another score on the board with a 45-yard TD scamper.

White led 13-0 at the half.

The White team would hold serve during the second half putting up another touchdown as RB Jonavon Darrington ran for 5 yard TD to give White a 20-0 in the late 3rd quarter.

To cap off the 3rd quarter, Henry would get a pick-6 with a near 50-yard return for a TD. This gave the White team a 26-0 lead to end the 3rd.

The White team would go on to win this game, 26-6.

The star of the game was RB Martrell Nasir-Henry, who led the White team with 3 touchdowns. He went on to be named the Overall MVP of the 5th grade game.
