7th Grader from TX Runs for 391 Yards, 8 Touchdowns in One Game

FullbrightIII.James.2018.RotatorHis stat line reads 9 carries for 391 yards and 8 touchdowns on offense and two blocked extra points and an interception on defense. By all accounts, 2019 prospect James Fullbright III is having a pretty impressive season. The only catch—those were just his stats from his most recent game.

Fullbright III had one of the most impressive single-game performances in Texas youth football history in a 58-48 victory for his Midway Middle School, as they defeated Belton Middle School.

The 5’7”, 165 lb. running back/linebacker from Hewitt, Texas has rushed for 741 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to a kickoff return for a touchdown in his first three games of the season (click here for highlights). With numbers like that, it should come to no surprise that the Midway Blue squad is standing tall at 3-0 thus far, which puts Fullbright III on a good pace to accomplish his goals for the season.

“First and foremost I want my team to go undefeated,” said Fullbright III. “Personally I want to rush for over 2,000 yards and really score every time I carry the ball.”

Fullbright.James.2019.HeadShotWith six games remaining, the promising back is on pace for 2,223 yards. He’s on course to trump the 24 touchdowns and estimated 1,500 yards he gathered in nine games as a 6th grader in 2012.

Only a current 7th grader, no colleges have come knocking at Fullbright III’s door just yet. However, when and if they do, he won’t have to look far for some advice on how to handle the situation. Fullbright III’s father, James Fullbright II played collegiate football at Arkansas State and Iowa Wesleyan in the early 90s.

“My goal for him is to enjoy playing football and to use it as a tool to get an education,” said the elder Fullbright.

Though an infinite number of factors could change his mind between now and the time he’s a high school junior, Fullbright III has set the bar high when it comes to his colleges of choice.

“I really like Baylor right now. It’s close to home and I like Art Briles’ offense,” said Fullbright III. “I also like Texas and Texas A&M because of their traditions and size.”

To reach the next level, Fullbright III, who models his game after Walter Payton, will have to continue his work ethic that has already began to pay off. A work out warrior at CSS-Waco Sports Academy, he works out with Coach Caruthers on speed and conditioning. As a 12-year old, he broke every record the Academy had, running a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash, 31” in the vertical, a 1.54 in the 10-yard dash and a 4.36 in the pro agility.

Those athletic feats have transferred well to the other sports Fullbright III takes part in. This summer, he was named an all-star as a pitcher and outfielder for his baseball team. Last summer, he made it to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) state championships in Corpus Christi as a sprinter in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m track events.

Despite the success in track and baseball, Fullbright III is focused on football and becoming the best player he can be on the gridiron. Last season, he was selected for the Football University (FBU) Team Austin that competed in the FBU National Championship. While he enjoyed his games against Team Dallas and Team Houston, he’s looking forward to getting back there again this year.

“I also plan to attend FBU in Austin this offseason, hopefully FBU Top Gun and the Baylor Camp,” said Fullbright III.

However, arguably the most impressive thing about the talented student-athlete is his character and maturity at such a young age. Fullbright III maintains all A’s and B’s in the classroom and also received the Outstanding Leader Award and Physical Education Certificate for ability, good sportsmanship and character.

If Fullbright III continues his work on and off the field, that would certainly be ‘sweetness’.
