2023 QB Cody Shelton named MVP at NextGen Richmond Showcase

Perhaps the most talented youth QB in the nation was able to add another accolade to his growing resume of stellar achievements. 2023 QB Cody Shelton recently received the MVP award at the NextGen Richmond Showcase, after a dazzling performance at the camp.

"It feels great to know that I can compete at the highest level with QBs that are bigger and older than me. My goal for every event is to learn something new and get better as a QB, but at the same time I go in with the mindset that I have a chance to walk away with the MVP," Shelton told Youth1.com.

"Winning MVP at events like the NextGen Showcase helps prove that I am on the right track competitively. I work hard year round training, lifting, and attending camps and showcases to help achieve my goals of playing football at the highest level in HS and then in college," he added.

Shelton, who was named the #1 player from the 2023 class by Youth1 Media in last fall's Elite101 rankings, is well-known for his ability as a QB. He's widely considered as the one of the best youth football prospects we have in the nation.

The Chesterfield, VA native is a humble young man who works hard at mastering the QB position. He enjoys competing above all else.

"Competing with kids older and bigger. I love the competition and I feel it will make be better prepared as I enter HS," Shelton said of the best part of his performance at the camp.

"It was really cool to have an elite WR in the older group come grab me to be his personal QB in the 1 on 1 drills, we made an unstoppable duo. It also feels good to apply the techniques I work on and learn through my QB training with Malcolm Bell/UndefeatedQBT," he added.

Standing at 5'8" 150 lbs., Shelton is a supreme passer of the football. He's lethal on any given snap. He makes quick reads and gets the ball out with precision on almost every throw. His ability to make all the throws is extremely impressive.

He's a magician in the pocket.

"Arm strength and accuracy, field vision, football IQ, leadership, and the ability to extend the play with my legs," Shelton said of his strengths.

Even with all his success on the field, Shelton is dedicated to continual growth and improvement.

"Pocket presence and the ability to extend the play," Shelton said of things he's working on to take his game to another level.

"I feel like I can make any throw on the field with accuracy, so now I am working on avoiding the sack and buying more time for the big play," he added.

At the NextGen Richmond Showcase, Shelton also received a golden ticket invitation to NextGen's invite-only main event, The Show. This will be Shelton's third time competing at The Show.

2019's The Show is set to be at IMG Academy in Florida this June.

Shelton is ready to show that he's taken another step forward in his game and is excited to play at the prestigious IMG Academy.

"I am super excited to go to IMG Academy and compete against top talent in the nation. From what I have seen through social media, this will be another great year at The Show," Shelton said.

"I am going with the goal of winning the Championship and MVP for a third time in a row."
