Hawaii 8th Grade QB Offered by Jim Harbaugh and Michigan at Satellite Camp

The world can add Sol-Jay Maiava to the ever-growing list of 2020 prospects to receive a college scholarship offer before entering high school, as the Hawaii native was offered by the University of Michigan yesterday.

The offer came yesterday at Laie Park, as Harbaugh and the Michigan staff were in Honolulu holding a joint satellite camp with the University of Hawaii at Saint Louis High School.

According to Maiava’s father Luaao Peters, Harbaugh was very straight forward with the offer to his son.

“I want to offer you a scholarship Sol-Jay, what do you think about that? I'm ready to offer you,” is what Harbaugh said.

Peters was overcome with emotion.

“I just smiled put my head down and hugged him and said thank you coach.”

As the conversation progressed, Harbaugh continued to stress academics to the in-coming freshman.

“He asked Sol-Jay if he loved football and if he loved school, and Sol-Jay said yes to both.  He also asked about how his grades were and Sol-Jay said everything was good.”

At 6’1 and 180-pounds Maiava will be attending Kahuku High School this upcoming fall.

“We had a lot of offers from all over but we decided as a family that he was going to stay home here and attend Kahuku.”  He continued, “It appears he’s the front runner for the QB job on varsity and has been doing [well] since the spring.”

Maiava, now holding an offer from Ann Arbor, will have a chance to lead Kahuku High School this season as they play a very good schedule, including defending national champion Bishop Gorman.
