Nico Mannion is officially the number one ranked point guard in the class of 2019. Mannion recently reclassified from the class of 2020 to 2019, a move that not many people make. Mannion is no stranger to the spotlight as he was featured in Sports Illustrated as a 15-year old basketball prodigy.
Despite the “prodigy” label Mannion has continued to work hard and improve his game all throughout high school. It would have been easy for Mannion to get complacent and rely solely on his talent, he did after all receive his first college scholarship when he was in 8th grade. Even with all of the early praise, spotlight and expectations Mannion has continuously evolved as a player.
The 6’3, athletic guard averaged 23.4 points and 5.8 assists last year on 51% shooting from the field at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix. According to 247 Sports some scouts are comparing him to Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic.
Mannion has already committed to playing his college ball to the University of Arizona. If Mannion continues to surpass expectations, he will be a household name around this time next year.
