2023 RB/DB Amare Townsend honored to be named to Youth1's Freshman450

Up-and-coming Louisville, Kentucky running back/defensive back Amare Townsend has been selected for the Youth1 Freshman450. The 6-foot, 165-pound athlete, who attends DuPont Manual, explains what it means to him to be recognized as one of the top players in his class.

 “I feel really honored to get this recognition,” Townsend said. “I think I’ve worked hard for it but I’ve still got work to do.”

Townsend believes the national accolade is proof that his grinding is making a major impact on his development.

“This says that I’m a good player and my hard work is paying off,” Townsend said.

The dynamic Townsend describes what makes him successful on the gridiron.

“My strengths are leading a team and recognizing defenses,” Townsend said.

Townsend is a talented two-way player. Townsend explains what he likes about playing on each side of the ball.

“I love playing DB and playing over top of the defense or locking up good receivers,” Townsend said. “Also, on offense at running back I enjoy running the ball.”

Townsend takes great pleasure in bonding with his teammates and earning victories against ferocious foes.

“My favorite part of playing football is competing,” Townsend said.  

Townsend recalls some achievements that he cherishes.

“Some of my accomplishments are winning MVP awards and having a 98-yard touchdown run,” Townsend said.

Townsend patterns his play at defensive back after some of the elite standouts in the NFL.

“I look up to guys like Jalen Ramsey, Xavier Rhodes and Jamal Adams,” Townsend said.

Townsend will be busy at work in the offseason to sharpen his skills. Townsend will be participating in a Rivals Camp.

“I’m working on getting stronger and faster,” Townsend said. “Also, having better technique.”

Townsend was previously a defensive lineman prior to shifting over to the secondary. Townsend believes his potential has been untapped as a defensive back.

“I feel that I am getting better as a football player,” Townsend said. “I went from playing DE to now playing DB.”
