Imposing right guard Kenny Nguyen is a quarterback’s best friend and a defensive line’s worst nightmare. The 6-foot-2, 308-pound Garland, Texas product has been selected to the 2019 Youth1 Freshman450.
Nguyen, who attends Sachse High School, is extremely proud of the achievement. Being a member of the Freshman450 is something that Nguyen definitely doesn’t take for granted.
“It feels really great because you don’t get ranked a lot and I have put in a lot of work,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen lists the players that he patterns his game after.
“The players I look up to are Joe Thomas, and Andrew Whitworth because I like how they play, get off the ball and their attitude,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen breaks down the best aspects that he brings to the football field.
“My strengths are that I get off the ball quick, I play aggressive and I get low,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen relishes the physicality of being a right guard. It’s his favorite part of playing as an offensive lineman.
“I enjoy how I get a lot of pancakes,” Nguyen said. “My game is to go out their to have fun and get pancakes.”
Nguyen is a selfless player who cares deeply about his teammates. Nguyen appreciates the bond formed by being on a football team and having brothers for life.
“My favorite part of playing football is to be with the team because we always have a fun time and we motivate each other and work really well as a team,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen shares a recent accomplishment that he’s grateful for.
“Getting a lot of big plays and moving up to varsity in the playoffs,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen outlines what’s upcoming on his agenda. Nguyen intends to remain active so that he can continue to hone his skills.
“I am participating in spring camps,” Nguyen said. “I attend any camp I see and I go to position skill training to get better to get prepared.”
Nguyen discusses why he believes he’s developing into a dominant right guard.
“I feel like I have been getting better since the first day of Sachse High School because I plant my feet and extend the hips,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen is driven to keep grinding and becoming the best player he can be.
“I am working on getting to the heel line,” Nguyen said. “I am also going to work on my footwork and getting stronger for the next level.”
