In late January we wrote a piece highlighting twin brothers Nicolas and Lucas Child of Lindon, Utah. Since that article came out, it appears that college programs have taken notice, as they both received offers from Hawaii over theweekend.
The two massive 8th grade offensive linemen, Nicolas (6-foot-4, 245 pounds) and Lucas (6-foot-3, 245 pounds), were two of the many pillars that helped Team Utah make a memorable run to the championship game of the FBU National Championship tournament. Now their recruitment is starting to pick up.
“We visited Hawaii during our spring break through our coach, who helps us with these types of visits,” said Lucas Child.
After an enjoyable visit in early April, they returned home to Utah and returned to training for their upcoming freshman seasons at Orem High School. However, as Luke explained, things changed when he was filling out some recruiting paper work for guru Tom Lemming.
“We were sitting there filling out paper work for Tom [Lemming] and the phone rang. It was Norm Chow and he informed us of our offer,” said Child.
The offer came as a bit of a surprise due to the amount of time between the visit and offer. However, Child said after meeting with members of the Hawaii program (namely Chow) and the coaches watching their highlight films, they felt they should put the offers out there.
“All of the coaches were flat out studs and super nice dudes,” said an elated Child. “Their weight room was really nice and has everything you could ever need.”
When asked if he had any plans to head back to Hawaii to visit in the near future Child answered, “Maybe this summer. I mean, it’s Hawaii. If we go back soon we’ll probably go to Maui too. But we will definitely be back by next year for sure.”
Between graduating middle school and having a Division I football scholarship offer from one of the most beautiful places on earth, life’s not too shabby for the Child twins right now.
