Youth hockey tournaments are the best venues for players to hone their skills on the ice. There are more tournaments in North American than ever before. But which one is the best? These nominations were chosen based on the level of competition, prestige, quality of venues and appeal of their respective destination.
Voting will take place this week, so make sure your favorite tournament gets your vote!
Bauer World Invite
Held in Chicago the first weekend of November every year, the Bauer World Invite attracts some of the top AAA and AA teams from the US and Canada. With two divisions for each age group (squirt minor through U18), the Bauer World Invite is one of the biggest in the country.
Bauer Motown Classic
Formerly known as the Warrior AAA Invite, the Bauer Motown Classic is now run by Legacy Global Sports and is played in Detroit every October. Like the World Invite, the Motown Classic has two divisions for their age groups, which spans from squirt minor to U18.
Boston Breakout
Originally the Boston Top Ten Showcase, SuperSeries AAA’s season-opening showcase has grown in the last four years and now has over 100 teams that play all over Massachusetts the weekend after Labor Day each year.
Brick Invitational
Established in 1990, the Brick Invitational Tournament is one of the elite events for players entering their squirt major level of play. Held in Edmonton in early July, the Brick Invitational has an impressive list of alumni, including Jonathan Toews, Max Pacioretty, Kyle Palmieri, Brayden and Luke Schenn, and PK Subban.
International Silver Stick
Officially starting in 1958, this may be one of the longest running tournaments. With events all over the US and Canada for all age groups, Silver Stick attracts many teams that vie for the coveted silver championship pin and green banner.
Nations Cup
Also now run by Legacy, Nations Cup has expanded and now has AAA and Tier II events in different locations. A unique event, that places teams on Team Canada or Team US with competitors playing for points for their country, it has always been a fun event that attracts great teams.
The Cup
North American Championship - Every January squirt minor through bantam major teams head to Buffalo, NY for The Cup. Teams are picked by a selection committee to ensure the best competition.
North American Hockey Showcase (The Show)
For almost a week at the end of June through the beginning of July, teams made up of players that have finished playing at the squirt level head to Bloomington, Minnesota for The Show. Teams from the US and Canada are divided into regions.
Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament
Founded in 1960, the Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament is something all pee wee players look forward to in February. Strictly for players 11-12 years old, this event has seen an incredible number of pro players, including Wayne Gretzky.
