Rutgers University offers Delbarton's 2022 TE Pat Caughey

With Greg Schiano back as the head coach of the Scarlet Knights the school's ability to attract New Jersey's top football talent is as promising as it's been for the past decade.

The push to retain the top prospects of the Garden State gridiron was in effect in Morristown, NJ when Schiano and Rutgers offered Delbarton's 2022 TE Pat Caughey.

Caughey is a a 6'4 1/2" 216 LB tight end from Morristown, NJ who had an unofficial visit to Rutgers on August 30, 2019.

According to NJ.com the message was relayed to Caughey through Delbarton head coach Brian Bowers this past Monday. Per NJ.com

“My coach called Coach Schiano (Monday night) and he told him that he just landed in Miami but wanted to offer me a scholarship,” Caughey said. “Coach Schiano said that he doesn’t offer everyone and that it means something and that he looks forward to building a relationship with me and my family.”

This is the first official offer for Caughey who showed out in the weight room and in combine testing, running a 4.93 40, jumping 31.5 in the vertical jump and bench pressing 235.

Caughey’s highlight tape against Morris Knolls from this past season showcases the attributes that intrigued Schiano and the Rutgers coaching staff. The tape shows Caughey manhandling Knolls’ defensive ends and linebackers in the running game.

NJ.com reports that Caughey has also garnered interest from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Duke, Syracuse, Boston College and West Virginia.

This offer follows suit with Delbarton’s four star tight end recruit Lukas Ungar who also received an offer from Rutgers as a sophomore. He ultimately committed to Stanford University. Ungar was the guest on Episode 2 of The Spotlight - A Youth1 Podcast where he discussed his journey, how he handled offers while rehabbing injuries and shared some advice on how to approach the recruiting process.
