Team GFL held their FBU tryouts this Sunday afternoon in a rainy Buford, Georgia. The 7th and 8th grade teams are amongst the best in the nation and the talent was on full display all afternoon. Players from around the Gwinnett area came out to try and lock in their position on one of FBU’s toughest squads. Below is a list of the 8th graders (Class of 2020) that Youth1 recognized for having an impact performance on November 8th’s GFL tryout.

Harrison Bailey – QB
The highly touted quarterback was able to deliver accurately with each throw with ease during the tryout. Standing over 6’3, Harrison has the field vision and arm strength to make every necessary throw. His quarterback play could lead GFL far in the FBU tournament.
todd.mecose2015.jpg
Mecose Todd – RB
While limited in practice without pads, his incredible ability was on full display. Todd is a terrific combination of strength, size, speed, and skill at the running back position. GFL will have a lot of talented backs but this one has the potential to carry their team to victory.
robertson.michael2015.jpg
Michael Robertson Jr – WR
Mike is an insanely talented skill player that can explode in a variety of ways. Whether it’s catching a fly pattern or breaking loose on an end around, he possess a wow factor that cannot be taught.
downs.josh_.jpg
Josh Downs – WR
Downs caught everything in his direction today. Downs uses high level route running to create separation for big gains. Downs made a spectacular diving catch to start off the day and just continued to progress from there. He put together one of the more memorable performances from the GFL tryout.
johnson.taji_.2015.jpg
Taji Johnson – WR
The tall Hillgrove native was able to use his large frame to leap and grab the ball out of the air with ease. The soft handed Johnson has played with Harrison Bailey for a while, so the QB and WR chemistry is well developed.
ellington.dawson2015.jpg
Dawson Ellington – DB
Ellington was a lockdown defensive back that matched speed and athleticism with each talented wide receiver at this tryout. He put together one of the better defensive performances of the tryout.
knight.trenton.fbu2015.jpg
Trenton Knight – OL
An FBU All-American a year ago, Knight has incredible technique and used it to his advantage. He was one of the better football players at the GFL tryouts today. A combo lineman that can play guard and tackle, Knight can pass protect and run block with the best in the class of 2020.
gainesaiden2015.jpg
Aiden Gaines – OL
Gaines is simply one of the best linemen in the class of 2020. He’s simply a dominant football player can impose his strength and will onto his opponent. For a bigger guy, Gaines has quick feet and showed off strong lateral quickness.
jacksonramey2015.jpg
Jackson Ramey – OL
The strongest player out there flexed his muscles at the point of attack time and time again today. The 6’4 260lb tackle was able to push defenders in the direction he chose. The big tackle will be a vital part of the GFL offensive line moving forward.
wrobel.parker.jpg
Parker Wrobel – S
Wrobel made a lot of good plays at safety today, earning praise from multiple coaches. Not the flashiest or biggest, but makes up for with great technique and instincts to read the play well. Wrobel was also able to register an impressive interception during the 7 on 7 drill.
tylerroach2015.jpg
Tyler Roach – DL
Roach again displayed his ability to get off the line with exceptional quickness at the defensive end position. He's no stranger to the FBU tournament or other big stages, having been on the camp and all-star game circuit for several years. Look for him to make his home in the backfield throughout the tournament.
torrence.rashad2015.jpg
Rashad Torrence – DB
After showing up to Top Gun looking like an action figure, the hammering defensive back again impressed at the GFL tryout. His coverage skills are ever improving and he's more than capable of coming up and layin the wood in run support.
vidal.kimani2015.jpg
Kimani Vidal – RB
Vidal showed up and showed out at the tryout, making a number of impressive runs. On a team loaded with athletes, Vidal is a true running back and could be a very important piece of the puzzle as GFL aims for a deep national title run.
