MVP Hustle Prieto Jump to No.1 Spot in Latest 12U Power Rankings

Nearly five weeks ago when we last checked in on the 12U USSSA national power rankings, there was a Texas team on top of the list. Now a new No.1. team from California has taken over the top spot.

Below are the five highest ranked 12U Major teams in USSSA sanctioned play.

  1. MVP Hustle Prieto-12U (pictured): MVP Hustle from Norwalk, California, jumped from No.5 last month to the peak of this ranking list primarily based on a strong showing at this past weekend’s MLK/Select30 Super NIT. They finished in second place to GBG San Diego and outscored teams 39-10 overall. Manager Robert Prieto’s squad is 13-1 overall (12-1 In Class) with previous tournament titles at a Super NIT and Toy Drive I Qualifier. They will be a tough out of any tournament they enter this season.
  2. Texas Raiders Elite- Lale: The Texas Raiders dropped one spot from last month to make way for MVP Hustle. They boys from Southlake, Texas, haven’t participated in a USSSA tournament for a few months, but have consistent results this season with two first place and two third place finishes. Their crowning achievement of the fall season came at a Baseball State Level 2 tournament where they went 5-0 and outscored teams 52-3. Manager Amanda Azuna has this group positioned for a big 2019.
  3. Scottsdale Dirtbags 12U Black: The Dirtbags are a team that has been covered a lot on Youth1.com recently as a direct result of their solid play. Since the last rankings report, they’ve played in two tournaments, winning the USSSA Winter Nationals NIT by going 6-0 and most recently they were 3-2 at the MLK Select30 Super NIT. Eric Carlson has his team sitting at 20-6 overall with just two losses in 15 games In Class. They’ll be back in action this weekend at the Bell Sports Gear Classic where they’re set to take on Desert Fury Baseball Club and Tucson Champs Academy in pool play.
  4. Banditos Black: The boys from Phoenix drop two spots in the rankings this month as MVP Hustle and the Scottsdale Dirtbags jumped them. The Banditos have not been quiet however since last recap. They’ve played in two tournaments, coming in third place both times. First, at the USSSA Winter Nationals NIT, Alex Medrano’s squad was 3-2 and lost a tough elimination game to the AZ Nationals Red by two runs. Most recently at this past weekend’s Select30 Super NIT, their only loss was 3-0 to MVP Hustle which bounced them from the tournament but they still won three games over solid competition.
  5. Tri-County Baseball 12U: Tri-County from Clovis, California, is as new, well-deserving team to this month’s list. They’ve played in six USSSA tournaments this season and have not had more than one loss in any of them. In fact, they rattled off a four-tournament winning streak highlighted by an NIT championship in last month. They were 3-1 at this past weekend’s big Super NIT, eventually losing to MVP Prieto. Manager Mark O’Toole’s team is 22-3 overall and will make noise in the spring.
