This weekend at Lassiter High School the Nike SPARQ combine pulled into Georgia for their Atlanta combine. Over 160 middle school athletes attended the combine to test their football skills including a few SPARQ veterans, some 2018 Elite 101 athletes, youth All-Americans and other top athletes. In a hot bed for football talent, talented 2018 and 2019 athletes from six different states showed up and showed out.
The highest overall SPARQ rating on the day went to 8th grade receiver Garland Lafrance, who finished with a 76.35. This first place finish was Lafranceâs second top rating, as he earned top honors earlier in March at the New Orleans SPARQ combine. Lafrance recorded the fastest 40-yard time with a 4.83 and best vertical jump with a 33.2. He also finished second in the shuttle run with a 4.25. Though Lafranceâs rating fell from 88.26 to 76.35 at this SPARQ combine he still holds two of the top five SPARQ ratings by an athlete all combine season.
Bryce Jones, a 5â10, 148 lb. wide receiver earned the second highest SPARQ rating with a 73.62. Jones displayed the great quickness with a combine-best 4.19; that score is tied for the third quickest on the combine tour this year. Jones also came in second at the combine with a vertical jump of 32.3, showing that the reliable target can really get up for jump balls if needed.
Coming in third place was Florida running back Samuel Llewellyn, who earned a 71.97 on the afternoon. Llewellyn is no stranger the success, as he was named the No. 70 overall player on the 2018 Elite 101 and a Youth1 All-Top Gun First team selection coming into the season. Llewellyn showed that type of all-purpose back he is with third place finishes in the powerball toss with 35 feet and a third place finish in the vertical jump with 32 inches.
Rounding out the top five were quarterback Zac Montgomery with a 65.76 rating and running back Connor OâNeill with a 65.43 rating. At 5â10 and just under 170 lbs., Montgomery had a solid combine with his best event being the 40-yard dash where he finished fourth overall with a 4.89. All 5â11 and 167 lbs. of OâNeill was used to toss the powerball a combine-best 36 feet, impressing many of the coaches and onlookers. With the excellent performance, OâNeill moved into a first place tie for the farthest powerball toss in the entire country.
The standout of the 2019 class was easily Joseph Honeysucker out of Tennessee. A 2014 youth All-American, Honeysucker is a defensive lineman to keep an eye on, as he earned a SPARQ rating of 53.97. Easily the top score in Atlanta, Honeysucker moved into fourth place nationally among 2019 athletes and first place among defensive linemen. At 6â1 and just under 200 pounds, Honeysucker ran exceptionally well with a 5.01 in the 40-yard dash and also showed off his power with a 31 in the powerball toss.
