After extensive film study and scouting of the nation's best athletes, Youth1 Media recently named Centerville, OH native Chase Harrison the #1 athlete in the 2022 class in our annual Elite 101 rankings. For those unfamiliar, the Elite 101 rankings have been a valuable resource for pinpointing the nation's absolute best athletes entering their 8th grade seasons.
Harrison is a superb QB talent with all the skills and intangibles scouts and coaches look for in quarterbacks. Standing at 6'2" 170 lbs., Harrison has great size for a young QB with a beautiful throwing arm to match. Harrison has made a name for himself around the country as a QB with an extremely bright future.
Being named as the #1 prospect on any list should be considered an honor, and it's a representation of all Harrison's hard work being recognized.
"I was excited and honored. I am thankful for the recognition," Harrison told Youth1.com.
"It is great recognition for my team. I can only do well as a QB if my team is successful. My OL, RBs, and WRs are the best."
Chase's father, Michael Harrison, describes his son’s demeanor after being named the top prospect of the 2022 class by Youth1 Media as "quietly excited." Those close to him know Harrison as a quiet, humble, and dedicated young man who just loves to throw the pigskin.
Harrison continues to work diligently on his craft and remains dedicated to leading his Centerville Elks football team to another stellar season. (They are currently undefeated, as Harrison has absolutely dominated in each game.)
"I have been training to get faster and stronger while working to improve my skills every year. I do QB training year-round and speed and core strength training in the off-season," Harrison said.
"I am working on pre-snap and post-snap reads. Each offensive play we run has several options based on how I read the defense. I like going through my progressions to find the open receiver," he added.
Harrison is the type of talent worth keeping an eye on, as he’s sure be a top college recruit very soon. Here are some of his strengths on the field in his own words.
"My strengths are my accuracy, arm strength, and ability to extend the play. I think my size, athleticism, and speed help me do that," Harrison said.
"I work on my footwork and throwing mechanics everyday which I think has helped my accuracy. I want to improve on my 63% completion rate from last year."
His talent, leadership, and humble nature, make him the ideal teammate and a player any team would be lucky to be led by.
Harrison models his game after one of the NFL's brightest young stars in Marcus Mariota. "He is a big, athletic, and smart QB who can make every throw and can still beat the defense with his legs," Harrison said.
Harrison is a do-it-all type of QB. He can destroy defenses from the pocket with his ability to throw the ball with pinpoint accuracy. He's a very mobile QB, who if forced outside the pocket can make throws on the move or evade defenders to get downfield by running the ball.
While being ranked the #1 athlete in the Class of 2022 by Youth1 Media is an impressive achievement for Chase Harrison, he remains focused on becoming the best QB he can be. He'll use this achievement as motivation going forward.
"Yes I was surprised by the ranking, but I didn’t know what to expect," Harrison said.
"I am working hard to be the best QB I can be so I am happy about the ranking."
