Team Xtreme Adiktiv Repeats as Champs at Atlanta Select30 Super NIT

Team Xtreme Adiktiv 12U (pictured above) from Milton, Florida, repeated as champions this past weekend at the Atlanta Select30 Super NIT. Team Xtreme went 6-0 against 12-Major competition and outscored opponents 61-37 overall including a 7-3 triumph over Cellblock Baseball in the title game.

The 24-team field was comprised of squads from six different states. In the first round, they were broken into pools to complete round robin play. The other teams in Xtreme’s Pool C were the Tallahassee Tomahawks, Oconee Elite (GA) and EBC Thompson (MS).

Team Xtreme Adiktiv’s manager, Jamie Sauls, had his group ready to play from the beginning. They destroyed EBC Thompson 12-0 in the first pool play game. Owen Walters and Jake Devalk split the shutout on the mound. Their second round robin game came against the team from Georgia, Oconee Elite, and it proved to be much closer than the first contest. Team Extreme escaped with a narrow 6-5 victory. Four different Xtreme teammates threw at least one inning in this game, Frank Randall and Cameron Warren (2 IP) and Anthony St. Vincent and Justin Friend each threw a frame.

All 24 teams advanced to a single elimination bracket field to determine a champion. Team Xtreme Adiktiv took on Game On East in the second round (they had a first round bye after winning their pool). Game On had just defeated the Steel City Select in the first round 12-5 so they were primed for the matchup and were indeed a tough foe. However, Team Xtreme would display toughness and perseverance to win 15-14 and head into the quarterfinals. In that round they played the South Dekalb Tribe-Gold from Georgia who was 12-4-1 In Class prior to the game.

The Tribe lived up to their billing and were no easy out, but fell short to Team Xtreme, 13-11. In one of the semifinals, the Kennesaw Generals took on Team Xtreme Adiktiv, but could only push across four runs. In most games that won’t be enough to defeat the high powered Adiktiv offense and this was no exception – Xtreme advanced 8-4. Credit to Justin Friend who threw four innings and Frank Randall who contributed two.

In the finals, Team Xtreme was matched up against Cellblock Baseball who were 6-0 to that point in the Atlanta Select30 tournament and 15-1 overall. Team Xtreme would prevail however and win its second-consecutive USSSA tournament.

Last month they won the Santa Rosa Shootout by going 3-0 and allowing two total runs throughout the weekend. Against 12-Major competition in which Team Xtreme has an excellent 9-2 record against, they score on average close to 7 runs per game. Keep an eye out for this team as it seems they’ve hit their stride with two straight titles after two fifth place finishes earlier this season.
