U.S U-15 Boys National Soccer Team Completes Croatia Tournament

This week, the U-15 Boys National Soccer Team traveled and finished a four-team tournament in Zagreb, Croatia. The competing teams included the U-15 Teams of Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and the United States. The U.S finished with one win against Montenegro and two losses to both Serbia and Croatia.

The first match that kicked off the tournament for the U.S was against Montenegro. Right from the start, the U.S dominated possession, and scored in the first minute when forward Giovanni Reyna scored the only goal of the match. This match showed the defensive prowess of the United States as they limited Montenegro to four shots overall.

The second match was against the host country Croatia. The first half belonged to Croatia as they took the lead in the 16th minute with a goal from Josko Gvardiol. Croatia led the U.S at the half 1-0. Croatia scored to kick off the second half when Karlo Miljanic slotted away the second goal of the match. The U.S answered quickly when substitute Gilbert Fuentes took it upon himself to give the team a chance when he scored cutting the lead in half. Although the United States put more shots on net and overall seemed to control the pace of the game, the two goal lead of Croatia was too much to handle as they fell to a 2-1 loss.

In the last match of the tournament, the United States slumped to a 2-0 loss to Serbia. Serbia took the lead and added to its lead all in the first half with goals from Andrej Blagojevic and Edwin Eleven in the 13th and the 26th minute. The U-15 team had no answer to Serbia’s goals even though the team racked up twelve shots overall.

Although the tournament ended on a sour note for the U-15 boys, the international experience they gained from this will prove to be vital as they continue their national careers for the U.S team. This was the second international tournament for the team overall this year as they made a trip to Argentina and ended up champions of the International Festival of Fútbol.

The future is bright for United States soccer and this team will prove to be important in the years to come.
