2019 USA Hockey Nationals Results

Yesterday, USA Hockey crowned their Tier 1 and 2 Champions across 19 different divisions. Upsets were plenty as teams from Florida through Alaska flew all over the country to take on the best of the best. Overtimes, shootouts, even advantage goals, shorthanded goals, power play goals and more filled 6 days of non-stop hockey action.

The Maine Moose won their third consecutive Tier 2 U181A national championship while there were two other teams to repeat as national champions, Boys Tier 1 18U Central CT Selects and Girls Tier 1 16U Chicago Mission. Three national championships were decided in overtime and three were decided in shootouts. Overall 12 of the 19 championship games were decided by two goals or less, while six of the games ended in shutouts.

While all of the championship games were memorable for most, some really stood out:

Boys Tier 2 16U1A final where the Jr. Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Atlanta Jr. Kings 2-1 in a shoot out was such an intense final, and while no one likes games ending in a shootout, the excitement was unmatched at the Jr. Knights were elated.

Boys Tier 2 16U2A final was almost as good, as McKinney North Stars went up 3-0 over the Anchorage North Stars, only to see Anchorage score four unanswered goals, including the winner with under a minute to play to win 4-3.

The Girls Tier 1 14U final where the Pittsburg Pens Elite defeated Little Caesars 4-3 in OT was easily the girl’s game of the tournament. The Pens were down 2 with 5 minutes left to play, to go on to win the championship on a shot from the point in OT.

Boys Tier 1 18U championship game saw the Central Ct Selects successfully defended their national title with a 3-2 OT win over the always dangerous North Jersey Avalanche. Central CT Selects were up 2-0 with under a minute left to play, North Jersey pulled the goalie and scored twice in 25 seconds to send the game to OT. The Selects somehow overcame the huge momentum swing and scored 2 minutes into overtime, giving them the championship.
