Mid-season update on Class of 2025 Quarterback Luke Carney

Class of 2025 quarterback Luke Carney, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback out of Texas, has gotten off to a strong start for his team this season. Carney has played in five games this season for Dallas Christian High School and has contributed in a big way to his team's 4-1 start to the season.

In the five games that Carney has played in, he has showcased his ability to get the job done with his arm and his legs. He has completed 84-of-110 passes for 1,557 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions so far this season. Carney is completed a little over 75 percent of his passes. He has two games of 400-plus passing yards and four games of three-plus touchdown passes. He's also rushed 38 times for 411 yards and four touchdowns in his first five games. That includes two 100-plus yard efforts to start the season.

On the recruitment side of things, Carney has five listed offers. Arizona, Georgia Tech, Marshall, Toledo, and Western Michigan have all offered him an opportunity to play college football at their school. He recently took an unofficial visit to Marshall.

YOUTH1 QUICK EVALUATION ON CARNEY

Luke Carney is well on his away to eclipsing his previous season-highs in passing yardage (2,409 in 2022) and rushing touchdowns (seven in 2021) and has a great chance of doing the same with touchdown passes (31 in 2022) and rushing yards (918 in 2022).

There's a lot to like about his mid-season highlights. You get to see how he reacts in different types of scenarios that can take place in the pocket as a quarterback. One of his first few plays shows his ability to avoid pressure, climb the pocket, and make the completion to the wide receiver about 10-plus yards down the field. Carney's mobility and the fact that he didn't put his head down helped him avoid the sack and locate his target.

The accuracy and touch Carney displays on both his on or off-platform throws is impressive. He reads the whole field and gets the ball where it needs to go based on what he sees (coverage and alignment). Carney's ability to make all the throws on a football field work to his advantage in the spread offense that he plays in.
