Camron Phetxoumphone
80-pounds
Team Valley Wrestling
Last weekend Camron Phetxoumphone dominated the Iowa Grade School & Junior High State Championship as he took home two state championship titles. Phetxoumphone competed in both the 80 and 85-pound brackets and won a gold medal in both.
In the 80-pound bracket Phetxoumphone won all three of his bouts by fall including two in the first period. He took home the championship bout in impressive fashion as he defeated Gavin Reed of IAWC in :57 seconds.
Phetxomphone turned around and then competed in the 85-pound bracket and the outcome was a replicate of what he did in the 80-pound weight class. He again won all three of his bouts by fall as he took on and defeated David Grimes in the gold medal match by fall in 2:01.
It was an impressive showing by the young grappler as he won all six of his matches by fall - three of which came within one-minute of the match beginning. Of those three, two actually came in :32 seconds and another in :22 seconds.
It was an all-around strong performance by the 80-pound grappler and for that we’d like to congratulate Cameron on his pair of state championships!
