Youth1 Wrestler of the Week - Stevo Poulin

Our Youth1 Wrestler of the Week Award goes to Stevo Poulin of Journeymen Wrestling Club in New York.

Last weekend, Poulin won his first major championship of the season when he claimed the 85-pound NHSCA National Middle School Championship.

Poulin put on a strong showing during the event as he posted a perfect 4-0 record. He won his first bout of the event with a 21-3 tech-fall victory and then picked up back to back major decisions to reach the gold medal match.

In the title bout, Poulin took on a familiar foe - in-state rival Nick Fea. A week prior, Poulin and Fea met in the 87-pound NYWAY State Championship title bout where Fea defeated Poulin in a tight contest 2-1.

This past weekend in Virginia Beach, Poulin got the revenge he was seeking. The two battled it out in another hard fought match that ended up 4-4 at the end of regulation. In overtime, Poulin scored a takedown with 13 seconds left in the extra period to defeat Fea 6-4.

In one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament, on one of the biggest stages, Poulin was able to keep his composure and wrestler to a hard-fought overtime win over an in-state foe.

Congratulations to Stevo on earning Youth1 Wrestler of the Week honors and for winning his NHSCA National Championship!
