Our Youth1 Wrestler of the Week Award goes to Travis Mastrogiovanni of Buxton School of Wrestling.
Last weekend, Mastrogiovanni won his third major championship of the season as he took home the 115-pound Flo Tulsa National Championship.
Mastrogiovanni put on one of the most impressive outings of the weekend as he won five of his six bouts by fall - all of which came in the first period.
He started his weekend off by pinning Eli Benham in 1:10 and the followed that up with two victories by fall in less then :30 seconds as he defeated Holden Andrews in :24 seconds and Rayce Zike in :11 seconds.
The Super 32 Champion then went on to defeat Joshua Pence of Greater Heights Wrestling by fall in 1:01 and Joseph Martin of Dethrone in 1:23 to reach the championship bout.
Mastrogiovanni didn’t pick up a fall in the finals but he dominated the match as he scored a 12-4 major decision over Nicholas Vafiadis of VA Team Predator. He took a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period and then an 8-0 lead after the second before he surrendered a point to Vafiadis. He’d score a reversal and a late takedown to win 12-4.
The talented 115-pound wrestler is ranked as one of the best in the country and with good reason. He won the toughest preseason tournament in the Super 32, won the Flo Kickoff Classic, went undefeated at the VAC Holiday Duals and added a Tulsa National Title this past weekend.
With his victory this past weekend, Mastrogiovanni will be a favorite to complete the quest for the 2016/2017 Trinity Award.
Congratulations to Travis on a dominating weekend!
