Turf War V Belongs to 8U Georgia Squad


(Youth1 Softball) – The Mojo Outlaws 04 from Ringgold, Georgia, started their 2013 spring season off with a bang, as the team captured the 8U Turf War V championship over the weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. The Outlaws would be amongst 17 of the top teams in the 8U division from the states of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Texas, all vying for the 1st place hardware. A championship finish was the only thing on the team’s mind, as the girls brought the fire, going 6-0 in tournament play.

mojo 04 champs picThe Outlaws faced off against Tennessee Spitfire in pool play, cruising to a 15-1 victory in 2 ½ innings of play. Brionna Condon, Addison Needham, Emma Langston, and Carrigan Pitts each had four hits. Langston also produced an impressive four RBI’s during the pool play victory.

The team then picked up the momentum and registered a huge 17-1, three-inning victory over the Frost Falcons 04 squad. Caydra Parker recorded an RBI triple, while Brynley Oliver, Kiya Ferrell and Allie Farrow each connected for RBI singles. Collectively, seven batters combined for an impressive 16 hits, 14 RBI’s and 14 runs scored.

The next two bracket-play games saw the Outlaws pick up wins against Soddy Daisy Heat 04 (11-3) and Texas Chaos 04 (12-11). Raven Jones came up with three RBI’s on three hits, while Aspen Calloway and Oliver produced two RBI’s a piece. Condon also had three hits in the team’s victory over Soddy Daisy Heat.

The Outlaws would then face their toughest opponent of the tournament, Texas Chaos 04, proving to be a true, back-and-forth battle. After leading 12-7 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Chaos would come back to make it a one-run game. The Outlaws impressive defense however, was enough to hang on for the win, as third baseman, Ferrell, fielded a grounder and made the play at third base for the final out. Aspen Calloway produced a two-run double, while Oliver and Langston each recorded RBI’s during the bracket play win.

The Outlaws semi-final game against the Louisiana Rippers proved to be another tight tilt. After leading 8-0 early on, the Rippers battled back, taking a 13-10 leave over the Outlaws after four innings. The Outlaws came back, producing six more runs in the 5th inning and went on to win, 16-13. During the team’s semi-final performance, Farrow and Needham had three hits apiece, Langston produced four RBI’s, Jones came up with an RBI triple, Parker went 2-3 with a double, and Blair Cherry and Kyndal Chenault had RBI’s.

The championship showdown came down to a rematch with Texas Chaos. The Outlaws bats would do all the talking, while the team’s defense proved perfection, as the team went on to a 9-0 championship victory. Pitts had a diving catch out in right, while Calloway came up with three RBI’s during the team’s championship performance.

Collectively, the team strung together 104 hits, 74 RBI’s and 80 runs, while producing a team batting average of .575, an on base percentage of .568, and a slugging percentage of .729.

The MOJO Outlaws 04 is led by coaches Nathan Farrow, Troy Calloway, and Michael Langston. The team is comprised of Addison Needham, Allie Farrow, Aspen Calloway, Blair Cherry, Brynley Oliver, Brionna Condon, Carrigan Pitts, Caydra Parker, Emma Langston, Kiya Ferrell, Kyndal Chenault, and Raven Jones.
