2014 Las Vegas Royal Crush Recap

The 2014 Las Vegas Royal Crush wrestling event took place this past weekend in the Rivera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. Here’s a glimpse at all the weight classes for the Middle School division of 

the event.

70-Pounds
Dom Batara of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club won the 70-pound title. The Henderson, Nev. native defeated fourth-place finisher Scott Baker of Thunder Wrestling by fall in 2:13 in the first round, and beat second-place finisher Marco Herrera II of Team Legacy in the second round by fall in 2:57. He then claimed the title with a victory over John Seth of Vandit Wrestling Academy by a 6-1 decision. Seth finished the event in third place.

77-Pounds
Robby Vaughn of Tri Cities Wrestling Club won both matches in the double-elimination set against Johnny Masopust of Betterman Elite Wrestling. The Washington State champion claimed the title by fall in just 0:35 seconds after defeating Masopust in the first round by a 12-0 major decision.

84-Pounds
Cole Zorn of Mettle Wrestling secured the title after beating William Zernich of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club by a 5-2 decision. Zorn defeated Tariq Hornbuckle of Sunkist Wrestling Academy in the semifinal match by a 7-0 decision to lift him to the first-place match.

Zernich and Hornbuckle battled it out in the second-place match where Zernich was announced victorious by a 5-0 decision. In the third-place match, Hornbuckle overpowered Logan Mazzeo of Edge by a sudden victory-1 4-2.

91-Pounds
Austin Almaguer of Tri Cities Wrestling Club won the title by a 17-0 tech fall over Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club’s David Kalayanaprapruit. The Washington state resident pinned his previous other two opponents en route to his first-place finish.

Kalayanaprapruit claimed a second-place finish after he beat Isaac Lopez of Vandit Wrestling Academy by rule. Lopez went on to win the consolation match by fall in 0:32 seconds over Anthony Skeirik of GRIFFIN WRESTLING.

98-Pounds
Steele Dias of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club won first place by decision against Colorado’s A.J. Serna of Team Grand Valley. Dias earned a bye in Round 1 and defeated his quarterfinal opponent by fall in 1:52, and went on to beat his semifinal foe by a 10-2 major decision, which set up his first-place victory.

In the consolation match, Noah Wachsmuth of Cobra All Stars took down fourth-place finisher Stockton O`Brien Mettle Wrestling by a 4-2 decision.

105-Pounds
Sergio Arellano of New Mexico was able to claim the event’s title over Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club’s Jeremy Hoffman by a decision of 7-2. Arellano pinned his opponent in the quarterfinal match in just 0:27 seconds and won by 2-0 decision against the third-place finisher Justus Scott of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club in the semifinal match.

After Scott lost to Arellano in the semis, he won the consolation match by defeating Michael Munoz from Team Temecula with a 3-0 decision.

112-Pounds
Nathanial Rodriguez of Cimarron Bad Boy Wrestling was able to claim the first-place title by winning all four of his matches, two of which came by falls. The second-place finisher was Karter Kares of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club, whose only loss was to Rodriguez in round 2, which came by 6-0 decision.

Leonardo Mendoza of North Las Vegas Wrestling received third place and finished the day winning two out of four matches. The fourth-place finisher was Estrella Maestas of Monster Wrestling Academy, who only won one match and that came at the hands of the last-place finisher.

120-Pounds
Luke Mazzeo of Edge won all four of his matches en route to winning the title in Las Vegas for the 120-pound weight class. Amado Castellon of Cimarron Bad Boy Wrestling Club came in second and Desmond Bowers of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club finishing behind him in third place. Finishing in fourth place was Daniel Rodriguez of Cimarron Bad Boy Wrestling Club.

Mazzeo won two of his four matches by pinning his foe to the mat, one of which came just 0:10 seconds in. He won the second-round match by a perfect 15-0 technical fall and the won the third-round match by a 12-0 major decision.

128-Pounds
Ezekial Williamson of SUPLES WRESTLING CLUB won first place in the event after pinning and winning his first three matches, but losing his final match by fall in 2:52 to second-place finisher Jacob Olson of Tri Cities Wrestling Club.

Weston Milnes of Thorobred WC finished his day in third place after winning three of his four matches and finished ahead of the fourth-place wrestler Matthew Rodgers of North Las Vegas, who only won one match of his four on the day.

136-Pounds
The 136-pound weight class had only two competing wrestlers in it. David Lipscomb from team Men of Steele swept both matches in the double-elimination event. In the first round, Lipscomb defeated Carson Savage of Oklahoma Wrestling Academy by a major decision of 10-0 and later on in the second round beat him again but this time by a 7-0 decision to finish in first place.

144-Pounds
Deric Cho of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club was the only competing wrestler in this weight class and because of it Cho received byes in all rounds and finished first.

152-Pounds
Sione Halo from Tri Cities Wrestling Club won both matches in the first two rounds to defeat the only other competing wrestling in the weight class. Halo defeated Riley Hedden of Las Vegas Gladiators by fall in both circumstances. In round one, Halo beat Hedden by pinning him to the mat in just 0:43 seconds. Round two was a longer match, but not by much as Halo pinned Hedden in 1:54.

160-Pounds
Just like in the 144-pound weight class, only one wrestler was listed on this bracket, which means Jakob Alvarado of Green Valley Youth Wrestling Club claimed first place in the event.
