Who are the best?

 

This month we launched Youth1’s “Best of,” to acknowledge excellence and hopefully aid parents, coaches and athletes in making some sports-related decisions. Every month our staff, network of experts and readers will decide on the best of the best in equipment, training and competition.

 

Wrestling fans, this month we picked the best wrestling tournament in America. Our winners came from an elite group of seven finalists from across America, boasting some of the best competition the sport has to offer.

Fargo Junior Cadet Nationals


The Cadet and Junior National Championships, informally known as the “Fargo Nationals,” is the premiere youth event in the United States. Every summer, wrestlers from every state travel to this tournament, which is held at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota. There, they test their skills against the best competition in the country in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.

Super 32

Regarded as the toughest preseason tournament in the country, the Super 32 Challenge: Battle for the Belt annually features some of the top youth wrestlers in the country. The final 2015-16 InterMat rankings featured 97 wrestlers that competed in the 2015 Super 32 Challenge - a real Who’s Who in youth and high school wrestling.

Cliff Keen Preseason Nationals

Each November more than 1,500 middle school wrestlers from 36 states travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the Cliff Keen Preseason Nationals. This double elimination event is one of the largest in the country and annually features a number of top wrestlers.

VAC Holiday Duals

The VAC Holiday Duals is a dual-meet event that features the top all-star youth wrestling teams from across the country. Each December, 32 middle school all-star teams travel to Richmond International Raceway to determine which team is the tops in the country.

Tulsa Nationals

The Tulsa Nationals is the toughest event in the Trinity Award Series as it’s the oldest and most prestigious junior wrestling event in the country. The 62nd Annual Flo Tulsa Nationals will kickoff January 19th, 2017 and will feature more than 2,000 wrestlers from 40 states.
