About me
2-Yr Varsity Letterman; DL/OL starter on the 2019 IL 6A State Championship team; NUC All-American Games Invitation; Listed as one of the Top DT recruits for the class of 2022 (College Football Today); Ranked #1 DL in the State of IL for c/o 2022; 2020 Pre-Season 1st Team All-State selection on defense (Prep Redzone): Ranked #1 DL in the State for 2022/2023 by EdgyTim.Rivals.com
EdgyTim.com: Jireh Mays East St. Louis 202[2]- I was impressed last season as Mays was a sophomore starter on one of the top defenses in the state. Mays has excellent power, hand strength, and is very mobile and also showed terrific agility here. Mays is a highly advanced interior DL who will just get better, stronger with more reps and game experience. Has a chance to develop into say a Rivals 250 caliber player.
Additional Scouting Report comments:
"A Space-eater with the size to generate nice power and eat up blocks on the
interior. [Jireh] has a good first step to penetrate or take on blocks. High motor and hard worker who doesn’t quit on plays and works the LOS well to make
plays. Reliable tackler in multiple gaps who can stop forward progress
quickly. Reads and reacts quickly as the scheme develops to take on the block
or get into position to be a factor in the play." (GBR); "...Jireh Mays was a brutalizing force up the middle of the defense for East St.Louis and helped his team earn an Illinois HS State Championship in 2019. Jireh is very explosive for his powerful frame and is able to create penetration instantly off the snap of the football. He demonstrates excellent power & finesse moves, as he is able to beat offensive linemen with the swim, rip and bull rush. Mays locates ball carriers in a hurry after disengagement with linemen..."
