“It is a team sport and you have to work together to accomplish one goal and that's winning the Super Bowl,” Walker said. “I love the bond I share with my teammates. There’s nothing like being in the locker room after a win.”
Walker has learned many valuable lessons from playing football that he applies to his everyday life.
The main one is applying perspective to all situations.
“Football has taught me so much about life in general,” Walker said. “It taught me that sometimes you win some and you lose some. No matter what though you need to give it your all.”
Walker recalls his favorite football memory.
“When I got the game winning tackle and saved my team from losing an important game,” Walker said. “It was a special moment that I’ll never forget.”
Chrispin Johnson is in his second season coaching Walker for the Osceola Panthers.
Johnson explains the best parts of Walker’s game.
“John is a physical athlete whose abilities are easy to see. He demands your attention on both sides of the ball,” Johnson said. “John has great balance and footwork. When you have an athlete that knows he can move anyone that steps in his way, it becomes a beautiful thing to see him work.”
Walker takes his role as one of the leaders on the team very seriously. Walker makes sure he’s a daily positive influence on his peers.
“I try to be a good teammate by always motivating my teammates regardless of whether we’re winning or losing,” Walker said. “I tell my teammates to never give up and keep trying until the clock runs out.”
Johnson adds that Walker is one of those consummate teammates that every squad needs to be successful.
“John is a quiet giant. He really leads by example,” Johnson said. “He understands that his presence and being on the field causes the level of his teammates to rise.”
Walker is appreciative of having amazing male role models that are supportive.
“I’ve learned a lot from my coaches on how to be a better football player and a better person off the field,” Walker said. “To be a better player you have to outwork them, outplay them and outsmart them. To be a better person you have to stay humble. Never quit on a play.”
Johnson is an advocate of Walker’s capabilities.
“He makes an impact through his calming presence on his peers and being in the right position to make plays,” Johnson said. “We wouldn’t have the success we had without all of his contributions.”
In addition to making clutch plays, Walker also has a high level of football IQ as well.
Walker has excellent football awareness that puts him in position to thrive.
“John Walker understands the importance of attacking,” Johnson said. “He is constantly adding pressure to the opposition. He is starting to understand keys.”
Walker is on the grind to perfect and hone his craft in any way possible.
“He has a great engine. He works consistently whistle to whistle,” Johnson said. “If you think you are going to beat him you better be ready for a fight.”
Johnson explains why he compares Walker to this player.
“He reminds me of Jason Peters of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Johnson said. “He’s fast, aggressive, smart and super athletic. He makes the same type of impact on the field.”
Walker patterns his mentality after this standout.
“I look up to Cameron Wake because he went undrafted and played in the CFL and worked hard to make it to the NFL,” Walker said. “Now he is one of the best defensive players in the league. I want to work hard to have a career like him.”
Walker is constantly striving for greatness in everything that he does.
“I want to become the best person I can be on and off the field,” Walker said. “I want my family to be proud of me in everything that I do.”
Walker has his sights set on becoming a member of the Miami Hurricanes.
“I want to play at the University of Miami because they’re known to develop great talent,” Walker said. “I would love to help them win another national championship. No school has swag like The U.”
Johnson outlines the areas of improvement that will take Walker to the next level.
“With John starting to prepare for high school soon I would like to see him bring his pad level down,” Johnson said. “He is a tall player and will need to understand how lower pad level increases leverage.”
Johnson believes the sky is the limit as long as Walker continues to stay hungry.
“John is going to be a pleasure to watch. He already has the desire to play on the highest level,” Johnson said. “He passes the eye test and he can back it up on the field.”
