Martinâs role on the football field is a versatile one. He plays quarterback, but his main positions are wide receiver, and defensive back. In last season's total, Martin scored 45 touchdowns in 21 games. The accolades have been piling up for Martin as well. He was team captain during his eighth grade season, a four-time FBU Top Gun selection, played on National Championship teams for Iowa, and is a 2x Eastbay Youth All-American.
In addition to his football accomplishments, Martinâs baseball honors are nothing to look past. Heâs a member of the Iowa Youth All-State team, had a BA of .667 last season, and played in the 2012 USSSA Elite 32 Major World Series at Disney/ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando (highest level USSSA tournament).
In swimming, Martin is a 7x State of Iowa Swimmer of the Year, has set 14 state records in his age group, and was USA Swimmingâs 2011 Central Zone High Point Champion.
All of the accomplishments Martin has piled up so far have come from dedication. He has the attitude and determination that coaches can work with.
âI work out four to five times a week, and I am always focusing on different areas of my game to get better,â said Martin. âI do a lot of speed and conditioning work, along with weight training to stay in constant game shape.â
Martin displays the work ethic and athleticism that any coach would want, and this Hawkeye has the dream of one day playing for a top Division 1 school.
âSome of my favorite college teams that I would really want to play for down the road would be Oregon and Notre Dame,â said Martin. âThey are two of the best football teams in the country and I would love to someday be a part of the winning tradition they have.â
As the summer continues to roll on, Martin still has a lot of work left to accomplish in football as his Iowa team will be competing for the National Championship in Washington D.C. later this month. Martin will look to add another achievement to his already stacked resume.
Along with his incredible athletic achievements, Martin was also an honor student all throughout his middle school career. As the new chapter of high school gets ready to begin next fall, with great things expected to come, start remembering the name Oliver Martin.
