ACE Basketball hosting first annual youth camp later this summer

Atlantic Coast Elite Basketball is an organization committed to developing and guiding youth basketball players on and off the court. ACE Basketball is new to the youth basketball scene and will be hosting their first annual camp on August 11th at Island Garden in West Hempstead, New York. The camp will include two days of high intensity skills work and three guaranteed games for prospects in the 5th-9th grade.

Rich Berscak, Camp Coordinator and Recruiter for ACE Basketball has been involved in basketball his whole life. He was born in Brooklyn and raised on the blacktop courts in NYC, Rich has worked in player development for multiple organizations since the 1990’s. The idea for starting ACE Basketball arose when Rich realized how much traveling was involved for east coast basketball players.

"Over the last year I've been to the Middle School Basketball Camps in Houston Texas, North Carolina, and as far as the West Coast where it would cost an east coast middle school players family a lot of money to attend" Said Berscak." By not being able to attend, it hurts younger players ability to be seen at these types of events."

Rich reached out to Bernard Tomlin and Sheldon Bailey, two individuals well versed in basketball and colleagues Rich had known from years of being involved in the game. Both Tomlin and Bailey are experienced in basketball and bring their own unique traits to the organization.

Tomlin, who is the Training Director for ACE Basketball has over 30 years of playing and coaching experience at the collegiate and professional levels. Tomlin’s accomplishments on the collegiate level include the top first year scoring record at the University of Utah, with an average of 30.1 points per game, and the Hofstra University record for most field goals in a game, he was also a draft choice for the Utah Jazz.

Sheldon Bailey was a standout prep basketball player who played college ball and professionally overseas as well. While Bailey’s basketball and athletic resume is extremely impressive, it is his unique love for entertainment and children, which makes him a perfect mentor at ACE Basketball.

“I want to empower young people beyond basketball, I want to build self confidence, unity and team work. I want them to have goals, outside of the traditional athletic and academic goals.” Said Bailey. “I have a special connection with young people, I can help guide these kids.”

Bailey got into the entertainment business straight out of college; he has done commercials with some of the biggest names in basketball including Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O’Neal. He currently stars on the Nickelodeon show Game Shakers. Bailey’s blend of entertainment mixed with his basketball and athletics knowledge is sure to give these kids a style of training they will not receive anywhere else.
