Super 16 Invitational highlights big weekend at ‘The Nation’

The Super 16 Invitational and three age groups in the All-Star Tailgate tournament will have the Diamond Nation complex humming all weekend in Flemington, N.J.

The 44-team Super 16 Invitational will crown three separate bracket champs and each 2017 champion has returned seeking a repeat. ASBA Futures East, Boston Prospects and All-Out each won a bracket championship last June and is once again part of a deep and unforgiving field.

The Super 16 Invitational opens at 5 p.m. on Friday when Full Count Prospects squares off with the Diamond Jacks Gold 15U team on Field 1. The tournament continues from there at a rapid pace as the Super 16 takes center stage on the four large fields at Diamond Nation.

Besides the powerhouse defending champions back at ‘The Nation,’ you’ll get a good look at the Teel Ravens, LVBA Prospects, the Diamond Jacks Super 16U squad and multiple teams from such prominent programs as Wladyka Baseball and Baseball U.

The packed field will also utilize Jack Cust Baseball Academy (JCBA) around the corner, Hunterdon Central High School, also in Flemington, Nap Torpey Field in Somerville and Rutgers University in Piscataway.

The Super 16 Invitational playoffs get underway on Sunday afternoon. The Green Bracket semifinals are set for 2:15 p.m. at JCBA and Rutgers before the winners convene for the championship game at 6:30 p.m. at Diamond Nation’s Field 1.

The Super 16 Red Bracket semifinals are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at JCBA and Diamond Nation’s Field 4. The Red Bracket final will be contested at 8:30 p.m. on Field 1.

The Super 16 Blue Bracket will close out its tournament when the Nos. 2 vs. 3 seeds meet at 4:30 p.m. on Field 5 to determine the two teams that will collide for the championship at 6:30 p.m. on Field 5.

Meanwhile, the All-Star Tailgate tournament will be host to 12U, 13U and 14U brackets.

Full Count Baseball and the PS2 Academy Crusaders will open the 16-team 12U All-Star Tailgate tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Friday on Field 2. The 12U playoffs are set for 4:30 p.m. on Sunday on Fields 2 and 6. The 12U championship game will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Field 2.

Kempton Coyotes and Locked In Expos play the opener in the 13U All-Star Tailgate at 8 a.m. on Saturday at JCBA. The 13U championship game caps the event at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday on Field 4.

The Diamond Jacks Super 14U and South Jersey Elite meet at JCBA to open the 14U All-Star Tailgate tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The two-day All-Star Tailgate finishes with the championship game at 7 p.m. on Sunday on Field 3.
