Marucci Elite Texas-Venable 14U Captures Texas State Title

Marucci Elite Texas-Venable 14U (pictured above) won its first USSSA tournament of the year this past weekend at the Texas Global State Tournament sponsored by Easton after going 5-0 overall and blanking the Humble Bulldogs 9-0 in the championship game.

Marucci Elite’s previous best USSSA tournament finish in 2018 was fifth place in March’s Spring Showdown at Baseball USA Qualifier event where they were 2-2. However, this past weekend at the Big League Dreams Complex in Texas, Marucci Elite put it all together. In the 11-team 14-Major division, they finished pool play with a 2-0 record after victories over the Houston C2 Select 14U-White (6-4) and Mizuno Baseball USA 2022-Klein (4-3).

In those initial games, Reese Beheler and Cole Murphy each threw four innings on the mound while teammates Sean Fitzpatrick and Blaine Rhine contributed with a strong inning to close out the victories. Marucci Elite-Venable earned the second overall seed heading into single elimination bracket play behind the Banditos (TX) who allowed one less run per game on average.

Manager Jordan Venable’s team earned a first-round bye and would face the Houston Heat in their first game – the Heat were coming off an impressive 8-2 victory against a fellow Marucci team, Texas-Clyde. Marucci Elite-Venable would advance 6-4 over the Heat behind five strong innings from Ryan Hammond.

In the semifinals, the boys from Houston played Twelve 14U-Gold (TX) who had just defeated the Houston Select 10-2. Marucci Elite-Venable advanced in another close game, 5-4 thanks to four innings from Joshua Bowden and a final frame from Sean Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick started the championship game against the Humble Bulldogs from Humble, Texas, and pitched four scoreless innings followed by an effective final innings from Ryan Hanks to cap the weekend. Marucci Elite-Venable played four closely-contested games over the weekend and still outscored opponents 30-15 overall.

The team now has a record of 17-12, yet are under .500 In Class (against other 14-Major teams). Their next tournament action will come at the USSSA CTX Super NIT in Austin, Texas the weekend of May 19-20. They’ll follow that appearance up with a run in The Texas Invitational in Houston the following weekend.
