Youth1 Media is proud to announce their selection for February’s Female Athlete of the Month as part of their Year of the Girl campaign. Each month, Youth1 will identify an athlete whose performances in their sport and character off the field best represent the great qualities of female athletes.
This month’s Female Athlete of the Month is Melissa Samoskevich, a hockey player for Shattuck St. Mary’s School in Minnesota.
The 15-year-old is a member of the Women’s U-18 National team and is currently preparing to go the National Championships in San Jose, California at the beginning of April.
“We’re very excited to compete for a gold medal,” said Samoskevich. “To stay in shape, we practice every day at 7 AM and have team workouts twice a week.”
Melissa would like to thank Youth1 for the award, as well as her parents, siblings, youth hockey coach Marvin Minkler and present coach Gordie Stafford for motivating her to stay on the right track.
“My advice for other youth athletes as they move forward with their sports is simply to be great in everything you do; on and off the ice, field or court,” said Samoskevich. “It will truly surprise you what hard work will do for you with your sport, in the class room, and in life.”
Congratulations again to Melissa for being selected Female Athlete of the Month!
