Eli Manning was named MVP. February 4th, 1997 - Mario Lemieux is 7th NHL player to score 600 goals February 5th, 1989 - Kareem Abdul-Jabar becomes 1st NBA player to score 38,000 points

February 6th, 1990- The Blues' Brett Hull scored his 50th goal of the season. Brett and his dad Bobby are the only father son combination to score at least 50 goals in a season.

February 7th, 2010- Drew Brees, later named the MVP, connected with Jeremy Shockey for the go-ahead, two-yard touchdown pass with 5:42 left in the fourth quarter to lift the New Orleans Saints to a 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

Bowman February 8th, 1997- Scotty Bowman became the first NHL coach to win 1,000 regular season games when the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-5. February 9th, 2003- Minnesota's Kevin Garnett poured in 37 points, to help the Western Conference to a 155-145 double overtime victory over the Eastern Conference in the NBA All-Star Game at Philips Arena. February 10th, 1992- Bonnie Blair became the first woman to successfully defend an Olympic Gold medal in 500-meter speed skating and the first American woman in any sport to win gold medals in consecutive Olympics.

February 11th, 1984- Wayne Gretzky set an NHL record when he scored his 11th short handed goal of the season.

February 12th, 2006- Shaun White won the gold and Danny Kass again took silver, as Americans captured two of the three medals in the men's halfpipe at the 2006 Winter Olympics. February 13th, 1990 - Larry Bird (Celtics) ends NBA free throw streak of 71 games February 14th, 1966 - Wilt Chamberlain breaks NBA career scoring record at 20,884 points.

February 15th, 1998Dale Earnhardt won NASCAR's Daytona 500 for the first time. The win occurred on his 20th attempt. February 16th, 1972- Los Angeles Laker Wilt Chamberlain topped the 30,000-point mark in his career during a game against the Phoenix Suns. He was the first NBA player to reach 30,000 points. February 17th, 2010- American skier Lindsey Vonn won her first gold medal, taking the women's downhill at the Winter Olympics. February 18th, 2007- The West beat the East in the NBA All-Star Game, 153-132 in Las Vegas. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points for the West and was named the MVP.

February 19th, 1996- Charles Barkley (Phoenix Suns) got his 10,000th career rebound. He became only the 10th NBA player to reach 20,000 points and 10,000 rebounds in a career.

SF February 20th, 1963- Willie Mays signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants for an estimated $100,000 and became baseball's highest paid player.

hockey February 22nd, 1980The United States hockey team scored one of the greatest upsets in sports history by defeating the Soviet Union, 4-3, at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. February 23rd, 1991- North Carolina became the first NCAA team to win 1,500 games.

February 24th, 2006- The United States won its first-ever medal in curling, defeating Great Britain 8-6 in the bronze medal match of the men's curling tournament.

February 25th, 2009Connecticut basketball coach Jim Calhoun won his 800th career game. February 26th, 1985 - Julius Erving (Philadelphia 76ers) became the third on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

February 27th, 2008- Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer became just the third women's college basketball coach to win 800 games.
